Asking him or her on the first date
Asking him or her on the first date can be intimidating for both a guy or a girl. Especially if you know them through friends or work. If you walk straight up to them and ask them out on a date, it can bring several things on their mind especially for women including making out, sex etc. And if the person you are trying to go out on a date turns your offer down it can create a tense atmosphere between the both of you, atleast for a while. Instead, there are several other tactics which can work. Below is a discussion of them:
1. Talk to them casually few times on the phone, email or instant messenger.
2. If you have a common friend, tell them that you are interested in the person and may be they can arrange a group dinner or a weekend evening out.
3. Once you are comfortable with each other see if they are interested in having a cup of coffee or lunch. Another way would be to ask them to accompany you in an activity like skiing, rafting or hiking or a company event. Say something like this "You are participating in such and such activity and they should come along, it would be fun". Emphasize on FUN. Do not ask them out for drinks because if it is a woman it will put her on a guard. She would think if you are going to make a sexual move on her once she had a couple of drinks.
4. Have a casual conversation about family, friends, movies, sports, and work. This way you will become "friends first" and their guard will completely go down.
5. And once you both are extremely comfortable with each other things will automatically lead from one to another. Then every meeting will be date without even calling it a "date".

Want to get closer to someone?
If you have successfully met someone who youa re seriously interested in and would like to get closer to them, here is an idea. Throw a small party at your house and invite some of your well behaved friends who are not single. Remember you are known by what your friends are. Invite there significant others too. This will show them that you are someone who is stable and serious about a relationship. This will also make the other person feel more comfortable around you. Visit online for some of the party sites to get some ideas on how to throw a party.
